プラスチック製の盃は持つと、ずっしりと重く、厚みがありますが
木製はとても軽く、持つとふわっとした感覚になります。
また、口当たりもやわらかく、人にやさしい感じがあります。
お酒の味も陶磁器のぐい呑みとは、また違った感覚があるかもしれません。
時代劇などでは、殿様や大名、将軍様は大抵、朱の木製の盃を使っています。
本来は位の高い、上流階級の器だったのかもしれません。
薄過ぎず、濃過ぎず、ちょうどいい朱色がでており、口の周りには
金色が巻いてあり、高級感があります。
また、盃の深さも浅過ぎず、適度な深さがあるので、扱いやすくなっています。

We are pleased to introduce this set of hollowed wooden sake cups (large and small) from Aizu lacquerware.
These are a pair of “husband-and-wife” sake cups finished in vermilion urushi lacquer.
The difference between wooden sake cups and those made of plastic or wood-composite materials (formed by compressing wood powder) is immediately apparent the moment you hold them. Plastic cups feel heavy and thick in the hand, whereas wooden cups are remarkably light, giving a soft, airy sensation when held.
The mouthfeel is also gentle, conveying a warmth and kindness that feels pleasant to the user. The taste of sake, too, may offer a different impression compared with drinking from ceramic or porcelain guinomi.
In period dramas, lords, feudal daimyō, and shoguns are often depicted using vermilion wooden sake cups. Perhaps these were originally vessels reserved for those of high rank and the upper classes.
The vermilion color is neither too pale nor too deep, achieving a perfectly balanced tone. The rim is accented with a band of gold, adding a sense of refinement and luxury. The cups are neither too shallow nor too deep, with a well-proportioned depth that makes them easy to handle.
They are ideal not only for weddings, but also for golden and silver wedding anniversaries, marriage anniversaries, and milestone celebrations such as the 10th, 20th, or 30th wedding anniversaries. Of course, they are also well suited for enjoying the first sake of the year at New Year’s, or for end-of-year occasions.
