Kiyomizu-yaki Murata Kōnosuke GuinomI (Sake Cup) with Ouna and Crane Design
Introducing a guinomi (sake cup) crafted by Kōnosuke Murata from Kiyomizu-yaki.
The exterior of the guinomi features designs of Ouna (the old woman) and a crane.
This Ouna is the character from the Noh play “Takasago,” and along with the Okina (the old man), symbolizes marital harmony and longevity, making it an auspicious motif.
The broom that Ouna holds represents protection from evil spirits and is associated with safeguarding the home.
In Noh, both Ouna and Okina are considered spirits of the pine tree, which is also depicted on the inner surface of the cup. The pine tree, seen as a dwelling place for gods, symbolizes longevity due to its year-round greenery.
The crane, known for the saying “cranes live for a thousand years,” also serves as a symbol of longevity.
The entire design is rendered in underglaze blue, offering a timeless and understated aesthetic that ensures lasting enjoyment without becoming monotonous.
The body is made of thin, white porcelain, giving it a delicate and lightweight feel.
With a cylindrical shape and a flared rim, it provides a pleasant mouthfeel, making it easy to drink from.
This sake vessel is highly auspicious, and it is recommended to use it alongside the Okina guinomi as a pair.
Dimensions: Mouth Diameter 5.2 cm, Height 6 cm.
