Echizen-nuri – Wooden Miniature “Nigatsudo” Table – Akebono
Introducing a wooden “Nigatsudo” table from Echizen-nuri.
This table is inspired by the one used in the Nigatsudo, famous for the water-drawing ceremony at Todai-ji in Nara, which has been in use for over 1,200 years.
This Nigatsudo is designed in a smaller, mini size, slightly reduced from the standard table dimensions.
A notable feature is the “fude-kaeshi” (brush return) design, where both ends of the tabletop are slightly raised to prevent brushes from rolling off.
Additionally, the side panels are carved with symbols of the sun and moon: a circle representing the sun and a crescent shape for the moon.
The legs are foldable, making it easy to store without taking up much space.
The finish is known as Akebono, with a base coat of vermilion and a top coat of black. As the table is used and begins to wear, the underlying vermilion becomes visible, enhancing its character over time.
This miniature Nigatsudo can serve various purposes, such as a side table, display stand, or altar, adaptable to the user’s needs.
Dimensions: Width 45 cm, Depth 30 cm, Height 24 cm.
Material: Wood.
