Akatsu Ware – Black Clay Kanna-me Sencha Bowl Set of 5
We are pleased to introduce a set of five sencha bowls from Akatsu ware.
The bowls are shaped from black clay, and the outer surface features a “kanna-me” texture.
This is a decorative technique in which patterns are carved into the surface of the piece. When the piece is placed on the potter’s wheel and shaved, if the angle at which the spatula (or tool) meets the surface is too steep, the spatula can be lifted by the wheel’s rotation, leaving marks on the surface that resemble the marks of an axe. This technique is called “tobikanna” or “odori-bera” .
The outer surface of these bowls is decorated using the “tobikanna” technique.
The interior is coated with white brushstrokes, giving it a distinctive irregular texture.
With their generous size, these bowls are perfect for thoroughly enjoying tea.
The body has a rounded shape, and the rim slightly curves outward, making it easy to drink from.
The foot is relatively low, so these bowls can also be used as small dishes.
The monochrome color scheme of white and gray enhances the appearance of food served in them.
These bowls are crafted with great care and high-level craftsmanship.
