Zuihō Collection: Pitcher for Water, Dutch Style
Introducing the pitcher for water made by Zuihō.
A water pitcher is a tool used in tea ceremonies to replenish the water in the water basin placed during the tea preparation.
There are two types of water pitchers: one with a spout (katakuchi) and the other being a yakan (teapot). This piece belongs to the katakuchi category.
The katakuchi water pitcher features a cylindrical shape with a spout and handle, accompanied by a matching lid.
The design is a Dutch style, which refers to the general term for ceramics brought to Japan by Dutch ships during the Edo period.
In tea ceremonies, the motif depicted on this water pitcher, featuring “tobacco leaves” painted in equal parts of yellow and blue, is referred to as “Dutch.”
The “tobacco leaves” are illustrated prominently in indigo and yellow, set among arabesque patterns, showcasing a lively brushwork that has been valued among tea practitioners since ancient times.
The cream-colored body has fine cracks, giving it a bright texture.
The design features almost complete coverage with the motif, presenting a chic appearance dominated by indigo.
Despite its size, it is lightweight and easy to handle.

水注是茶道中使用的工具，用于在席中（点前中）向水指中补充水的器具。
水注分为片口和药罐两种，这里属于片口。
片口水注呈圆筒形，带有注嘴和把手，并配有盛盖。
其图案为荷兰写，但“荷兰”是指在江户时代通过荷兰船引入日本的陶瓷的总称。
在茶道等场合中，这种水注上绘有黄蓝相间的“烟草叶”图案，被称为“荷兰”。
蓝色和黄色的“烟草叶”大幅描绘在唐草纹样之间，画笔生动有力，这一特点在茶人中自古以来就备受尊重。
