The lacquer finishes are in Akebono and Negoro styles.
Akebono lacquerware involves applying a red base coat followed by a black top coat. The black top coat is then polished to reveal the red underneath, creating an intentional pattern. The swirling lines are raised, and only those parts are polished down to reveal the red.
Negoro lacquerware, originally from Negoro-ji Temple in Kishu, is made by applying a black base coat with a red top coat. The red top coat is polished away to reveal the black underneath, creating a deliberate pattern. The swirling lines are raised, and only those parts are polished down to reveal the black.
The tray features raised edges to prevent dishes from slipping off while being carried.
Being entirely wooden, it is very lightweight, delicate, and easy to handle.
This tray allows you to enjoy both traditional red and black lacquer finishes.
