Introducing the “Ultimate Extra-Low Flat Teapot,” crafted by a certified traditional artisan of Tokoname ware.
The signature red clay of Tokoname—rich in natural iron—softens the astringency of tea and brings out a mellow flavor. While most Japanese teapots are round, this one is made low and flat to maximize flavor extraction—an ultimate form pursued for brewing excellence. Among flat-shaped teapots, this model is exceptionally shallow, hence the “extra-low flat” profile.
Its wide diameter allows tea leaves to open fully and quickly, expanding evenly for richer extraction and better flavor. Even with a small water volume, the leaves spread easily, drawing out their character with efficiency. Because tea leaves open fast and widely, it is also suitable for making mizudashi-reicha (cold-brewed sencha). Cold brewing suppresses bitterness by brewing without hot water, resulting in sencha with more sweetness and umami.
With a capacity of 200 ml, it serves comfortably as a generous single-cup teapot.
To avoid metallic flavors from wire mesh filters, a finely crafted ceramic strainer is integrated into the inner spout. Both the strainer and the teapot body are entirely handmade, showcasing refined craftsmanship.
Since the mouth, body, and base diameters are nearly identical, the interior is easy to wash, dries quickly, and remains clean—highly hygienic in everyday use.
Horizontal wheel-thrown lines can be seen on the lid and exterior surface, indicating the extra workmanship involved. The lid fits firmly and is designed not to loosen or fall, while the spout is shaped to resist dripping. Although extremely flat, the overall contours are gently rounded, giving a soft and approachable impression. The lid is also flat, allowing the user to steady it with the thumb and pour one-handed—a functional refinement.

常滑烧的代表性陶土——“朱泥”富含铁分,可抑制茶汤的涩味,使口感更加醇和。
大多数急须为圆形,而此款急须为了最大限度引出茶味,被制作得更低、更扁,是一种追求究极形态的急须。
此急须在扁型中又尤为扁平,是超级扁平的“极扁型”。由于口径较大,茶叶能最大限度且更快速地舒展,叶片扩散充分,能够更美味地萃取茶汤。
即便注水量不多,茶叶也更容易舒展,更易引出茶味。茶叶能够更快、更充分地展开,因此也适用于冷泡茶(水出し冷茶)。
“水出し冷茶”指以冷水冲泡的煎茶,不使用热水可抑制苦味成分,使茶汤具有更强的甘味与鲜味。
容量为200cc,是较为宽裕的一人用急须。
由于金属滤网会使茶汤带有金属味,本品在注口内侧配有陶制的精巧茶滤网。此茶滤网与急须本体皆为手工制作,倾注了熟练匠人的技艺。
因口径、整体及底部直径几乎相同,使急须内部易于清洗与干燥,能保持洁净、极为卫生。
壶盖与壶身外表面可见如拉坯纹般的横向细筋,制作过程相当费工。
壶盖制作得沉稳贴合,不易晃动脱落;注口设计不易滴漏。
