“Bunrin” is an alternate name for the apple, derived from the shape of the container, which resembles an apple.
The Bunrin tea container is a type of karamono tea container used for thick tea (koicha), and among these, the eggplant-shaped and Bunrin containers are considered to be of the highest rank.
Especially, the Bunrin is renowned for the beauty of its glaze patterns, and throughout history, many famous pieces have been made in this style.
This particular tea container features a brown glaze with streaks of ochre-colored glaze, giving it a rustic and understated texture that is characteristic of the wabi aesthetic.
The subdued luster and atmosphere convey a sense of depth and sophistication, making it a timeless piece that can be used for many years without losing its appeal.
The covering (shifuku) is made from uzudonsu, a type of famous textile known for its “cloud bead” pattern . The pattern consists of cloud motifs arranged in a bead-like design, with alternating orientations and stacked in layers.
The cloud bead pattern has a color variation across three tiers, creating a sense of change and a luxurious feel to the fabric.
