Introducing a handmade small yunomi (Japanese tea cup) from Shigaraki ware with ash glaze and kiln changes, in green.
This cup is shaped from coarse brown clay mixed with small stones, using a potter’s wheel, and coated with green glaze. The surface exhibits numerous protruding stones, giving it a rugged appearance.
The cup retains its natural texture, with some pinholes, stone pops, and fine cracks, reflecting an authentic, rustic quality.
Its powerful and distinctive expression evokes a sense of nature’s vitality. The body features faint potter’s wheel marks, and three shell-like decorations are applied near the foot, adding a touch of elegance.
The glaze has areas where it has crystallized into a grainy texture, making it one of the highlights of the piece.
Although designed as a small yunomi, it can also be used as a slightly larger cylindrical sake cup, adding a touch of charm to any setting.
With its understated and refined atmosphere, this piece embodies the unique qualities of Shigaraki ware’s earthy pottery.
Each piece is unique, offering a sense of presence and sophistication.
