Mizutsugi (Water Pourer) – “Koma-tsunagi” Pattern, Silver Ibushi Finish – Crafted by Seisai
Introducing a mizutsugi (water pourer) crafted by Seisai.
A mizutsugi is a utensil used in the tea ceremony to replenish water in the kama (kettle) or mizusashi (fresh water container) during the temae (tea preparation).
There are generally two main types: the katakuchi (spouted pitcher) and the yakan (kettle-style), the latter of which this piece represents. It is made of metal.
The surface of this pourer is intricately engraved with the “koma-tsunagi” (linked spinning tops) pattern, a motif that covers the entire body. The piece has been silver-plated and then treated with a traditional ibushi (oxidized) finish.
Rather than having a uniform, polished silver shine, it radiates the refined luster characteristic of oxidized silver, giving it a subdued and elegant presence.
The contrast between the darker, smoked areas and the remaining silver sheen creates a visually striking balance.
This piece is of standard size, suitable for use in a typical tea gathering.
