Odo-yaki, 4th generation Doi Shoji, Lidded Stand, Drum
This is a lidded stand in the shape of a drum from Odo-yaki, a type of pottery from Kochi Prefecture, crafted by the fourth generation Doi Shoji. In 2001, he was awarded the title of “Contemporary Master Artisan,” and in 2006, he received the Yellow Ribbon Medal. A lidded stand is a tool used in tea ceremonies for placing the lid of a kettle. It is also used for pulling the ladle, and its design, material, and shape can vary according to the theme or season of the tea gathering. Although small, it is a vital tool that can be displayed on a shelf. This lidded stand features a design inspired by a drum, shaped from white clay with a bulging form, and has hand-painted blue patterns on the top and bottom. The body retains the marks of the potter’s wheel, with hints of reddish clay visible, showcasing the soft charm of earthenware. The back bears the mark of Odo-yaki. Since drums are often used in festivals and events, this piece can complement related tea ceremonies. It is a simple and timeless lidded stand.
Body diameter: 6.5 cm, Height: 5.5 cm.
