Kiso Lacquered Wooden Two-Tier Oval Bento Box with Dividers
This is a two-tier bento box made of wood from Kiso Lacquerware.
It is crafted by bending thinly sliced Hinoki wood into an oval shape.
The entire surface is coated with “suri urushi” (rubbed lacquer), which allows the wood grain to subtly show through, giving a sense of warmth and quality.
The lacquer coating continues to breathe semi-permanently, providing good ventilation. The lacquer itself has antibacterial properties, protecting the food from harmful bacteria and helping to prevent spoilage.
Furthermore, the wood absorbs excess moisture and releases it when dry, maintaining internal humidity levels. This helps prevent food from drying out or rice from becoming too sticky due to excess moisture.
As a result, the food stays fresh and delicious, even when cooled.
The surface of the wood is very smooth and, due to its thinness, the box feels remarkably light and delicate.
The joints where the side panels are fastened and the connections between the inner bottom panel and the side panels are reinforced with “kokusō” (a mixture of lacquer and wood powder used like a putty), enhancing durability. This feature reflects the characteristic sturdiness of Kiso lacquerware.
Though understated, this bento box is solid, timeless, and designed to be used for a long time.

木质表面非常光滑，由于木质较薄，感觉非常轻盈且细腻。
侧面板的固定部分以及内底板与侧面板的接缝处，均用“こくそ”加以加固，提高了耐用性，体现了木曽漆器所具有的坚固特点。
“こくそ”是将漆与木粉等混合制成的，起到类似于腻子的作用。
虽然没有华丽的外观，但它质朴坚韧，不易厌倦，是一款经久耐用、精心制作的便当盒。
