Kiyomizu-yaki 15th Generation Kato Jihei, Jihei Kiln, Glazed Flowing Style Matcha Bowl
We introduce a matcha bowl from the Jihei Kiln, founded by the 15th Generation Kato Jihei of Kiyomizu-yaki.
Kato Jihei, one of the renowned craftsmen chosen by Furuta Oribe, is the founder of the Jihei Kiln.
In 1905, the 12th Generation Jihei moved to Gojozaka in Kyoto and primarily produced sencha tea utensils.
The 13th Generation focused mainly on calligraphy tools, mounting tools, and building materials.
He also studied under Sonoda Kojō and was active in the field of seal engraving (tenkoku), serving as a judge for the Nitten Exhibition.
The current generation continues to energetically produce works using the skills of seal engraving (tenkoku), incorporating floral motifs and diverse glaze expressions.
This matcha bowl features a green base with a blue glaze applied over it, creating a flowing effect reminiscent of the aurora, which is very beautiful.
There are irregular brown areas on the bowl, likely due to iron content affecting the glaze, which coexist harmoniously with the beautiful blue hue.
The surface has a glossy, glass-like finish, and although the clay is thin, it has a substantial feel.
With its innovative design and high-quality feel, this piece can be said to have a unique and exceptional character.
