Hagi Ware Handcrafted Hōbin with White Glaze
Introducing the hōbin, or teapot without a handle, from Hagi ware.
A “hōbin” is a type of teapot that lacks a handle, typically used for serving high-quality teas such as gyokuro in tea ceremonies.
The absence of a handle is because, traditionally, high-quality teas are served at a lower temperature, cooled using a tepid water vessel, so they do not get too hot to handle.
Additionally, to prevent any metallic taste, there are no metal components in the spout, which features a hole on the inside for smooth pouring.
The capacity is 150cc when filled to the brim, making it suitable for a single serving.
Crafted from brown clay and covered with white glaze, this hōbin showcases a strong, wide-mouthed design that makes it easy to add and dispose of tea leaves, as well as clean.
The construction ensures that there are no drips from the spout when pouring.
This is a simple yet enduring piece, reflecting the high skill of the artisan.
