Hagi Ware – Bowl (Donburi) by Koyo Hayashi
Introducing a bowl (donburi) by Koyo Hayashi, crafted in the tradition of Hagi ware.
This piece is made using the potter’s wheel with Hagi ware’s characteristic red clay.
Coarse clay containing small stones is used,
giving the bowl a bold, rugged texture and appearance.
The reddish clay body is covered with a white glaze from above,
with the natural drips of the glaze being one of its distinctive features.
The surface of the vessel offers a rich variety of expressions—
shifts in color, uneven textures from the embedded stones,
and the unique reddish mottling known as gohon—
making it a piece that never tires the eye.
With a low foot and an open mouth,
it can serve not only as a bowl but also as a donburi or noodle bowl,
making it a versatile vessel for many types of dishes.
Ideal for everyday use,
it will also develop the beautiful patina of “Hagi’s Seven Transformations” (Hagi no Shichihenka)
as it ages with continued use.

萩烧 林红阳 制 作钵(盖碗/丼碗)
这是一款由林红阳先生制作的萩烧钵(可作丼碗)作品介绍。
使用萩烧特有的红陶土,通过拉坯成型而制成的钵。
采用质地较粗的陶土,夹杂细小石粒,
因此整体呈现出一种粗犷质朴的气质。
带有红色调的胎体上覆有一层白釉,
而釉料自然流淌下垂的纹理,也成为作品的一大特色。
器物表面展现出丰富多变的表现力:
釉色的变化、石粒造成的起伏、红土斑驳形成的“御本”效果,
带来视觉上的层次感与欣赏趣味,令人百看不厌。
高台较低,口沿外张,不仅可作钵使用,
也非常适合作为盖碗或拉面碗等料理用途,
应用范围广泛。
