Enza (Round Seat) – 30 cm Diameter
Introducing the “Upper Grade” Enza, a type of round seat used in the tea ceremony.
Enza refers to a round, woven seating mat used when sitting. In the tea ceremony, it is used in various settings such as the waiting area in the garden of a tea room. It can also be placed around a hearth, on a wooden floor, or on top of a wooden chair.
This particular Enza has a diameter of 30 cm, which makes it suitable for use on chairs in the standing tea ceremony.
It offers a different ambiance from traditional座布団 (zabuton) and is often well-suited for Japanese-style homes.
Typically, Enza is woven from materials like straw, sedge, reed, or bamboo leaves. This Enza is crafted from sedge leaves, with a focus on using only the clean, white parts of the leaves.
The weaving is done meticulously by skilled artisans, resulting in a firm, well-constructed mat rather than a loose one.
You will notice the difference when you use it. Made from natural materials, the Enza provides good insulation and appropriate elasticity, offering a comfortable seating experience.
