Echizen Lacquerware – Wooden Coarse-grain Board, Hand-painted with Pure Lacquer
We are pleased to introduce a wooden coarse-grain board from Echizen lacquerware.
A coarse-grain board (arameita) is a type of board used in the tea ceremony, placed under the furo (portable brazier). It has the same dimensions as a small board (koita).
The type of board used depends on the style of furo, but it can also vary according to different tea schools, so it is important to be mindful of these distinctions.
For example, the Ura-Senke school uses a coarse-grain board for the doburo (earth brazier), while the Omote-Senke school uses it with the karakane (bronze) furo.
The board is finished with shin-nuri (a deep, glossy lacquer) and features planer marks (kanname) running horizontally. The texture of the grain gradually changes from coarse to finer.
The coarser side is used facing toward the front.
This high-quality board is finished by hand with pure lacquer.

28.5 cm × 27.8 cm × Height: 1.8 cm
