Akatsu-yaki Yamaguchi Jōtetsu LID HOLDER So-Oribe Yagaku
Introducing a lid holder made by Yamaguchi Jōtetsu from Akatsu-yaki.
A lid holder is a tool used in the tea ceremony to rest the lid of a kettle. It is also used for drawing water with a ladle, and its shape, material, and design are selected to match the theme or season of the tea gathering.
Since it can be displayed on a shelf, this small yet prominent tool is indispensable.
This lid holder is called Yagaku, repurposed from a stand that held a fire bowl used for reading at night in ancient China.
It has a shape reminiscent of a jar, featuring several cut-out designs resembling lantern windows.
Entirely handmade, it showcases the potter’s skill with its distinctive shaping and cut-outs, emphasizing the craftsmanship involved.
The entire piece is covered with Oribe glaze, creating a refined, wabi-sabi atmosphere.
It is a perfect lid holder for the long autumn nights, ideal for the season of reading.
Dimensions: Diameter 6 cm, Height 6 cm.
