Introducing a Kuroki Matcha Bowl by Kato Kinkou from Akatsu-yaki.
Kuroki is a type of Korean tea bowl characterized by its tall stature, deep bowl, and high, flared foot.
It is said to have been named so because it resembles the utensils (lacquered bowls) used in Zen temples.
Historically, it is said that the Korean envoys who visited Japan used utensils at the Daigoji temple, which became known as Daigoji Kuroki, and similar items came to be referred to as Kuroki.
The precise shape of these bowls evokes the appearance of lacquered bowls.
Many of these bowls feature a pale gray surface with red speckles, and this tea bowl also has several red speckles reminiscent of the original type.
The bowl is large and substantial, giving it a solid presence.
Its foot is an elevated, flared style, which is one of its distinctive features.
This bowl can be considered to have a deep historical significance.
