Introducing a matcha bowl with a traditional cormorant fishing design by Yoshimi from Kyo-yaki.
This bowl is crafted from dark brown clay and shaped on a potter’s wheel, then coated with a gray glaze. The outer rim and front are painted white, featuring hand-drawn illustrations of cormorants and a torch fire, depicting the cormorant fishing scene.
The interior is adorned with white brushstrokes and features a depiction of a cormorant. It is a standard-sized bowl, thinly made for easy handling. The wheel marks are visible, adding to its handmade charm.
The cormorant fishing on the Nagara River, which has a history of over 1,300 years, was beloved by Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu and continues to be passed down through the generations. The cormorant fishing season lasts from May to October, allowing for extended use of this bowl with its illustrative design.
This bowl can be used for tea ceremonies themed around cormorant fishing, as a representation of Gifu’s tourism, or as a memorable gift or souvenir.
