Kiyomizu-yaki Tenmoku Glaze Handcrafted Sake Cup
We are pleased to introduce a handcrafted sake cup with Tenmoku glaze from Kiyomizu-yaki.
Tenmoku glaze is an iron-rich, dark brown glaze that is said to have originated from matcha tea bowls (Tenmoku bowls) brought back from China by Japanese Zen monks during the Kamakura period.
In the tea ceremony, Tenmoku bowls are highly regarded and are specially used for serving esteemed guests.
There are many types of Tenmoku glaze, and this particular piece features a black base glaze with numerous silver flecks on the surface, giving it a serene and luxurious feel.
The surface has a lustrous quality similar to that of a Raku glaze, adding to its uniqueness.
The cup is slightly larger, with a rounded body and a lip that curves outward, providing a pleasant drinking experience and ease of use.
Its sophisticated color complements Japanese sake well, and the simple, timeless design ensures it will be a cherished item for years to come.
