Akatsu-yaki Shino-Oribe Ichimatsu Square Flower Vase
Introducing a flower vase from Akatsu-yaki, featuring Shino and Oribe glazes.
Both Shino and Oribe glazes are traditional Japanese glazes that have been widely used in Mino ware and Akatsu-yaki.
This piece creatively combines these traditional glazes in an Ichimatsu (checkerboard) pattern, resulting in a modern design.
The design is nearly identical on both the front and back, with the sides also featuring the Ichimatsu pattern. The deep green of the Oribe glaze and the white of the Shino glaze complement each other beautifully.
The Shino glaze has iron-based underglaze patterns, and there are small pinholes and textures on the surface, giving the piece a warm, rustic feel with a tactile quality that adds to its depth and charm.
The Oribe glaze, on the other hand, has a rich, vibrant color that adds a sense of luxury to the piece.
The opening of the vase is small, meaning that it doesn’t require many flowers to create an elegant arrangement. Just a few carefully selected stems can be arranged attractively.
